Who am I, and what do I do?

I am Roslyn Still, a Licensed Professional Counselor. One of my personal and professional passions is thinking about and working with intimacy and relationship concerns. I am curious about the ways that our innate need for connection gets thwarted, and I am hopeful that deep, meaningful connection is possible despite the obstacles. Curiosity about this has led me to pursue specialized training in Emotionally Focused Therapy, a therapeutic approach that is based in attachment theory. My current invitation to myself in my clinical work is to lean into play and curiosity catalysts for change for clients.

Something that always puts a smile on my face (or brings happy tears to my eyes) is witnessing the transformations that clients experience. I celebrate the transformations because I witnessed the pain that made it possible. It is humbling to be in the trenches with my clients as they rediscover themselves and find satisfaction in their relationships. Seriously, how could I not get in my feelings when a client feels confident enough to pursue their dreams or a couple moves out of their negative cycle of anger and disconnection into a positive cycle of care, acceptance, and mutual enjoyment?

Doing this work inspires me to grow professionally and personally as well. It requires me to examine my own patterns and beliefs to see how they affect the way I live my life. I am getting better at recognizing my own triggers for pursuing or withdrawing, and I am challenged to take accountability for how I show up in the relationships that matter to me. I know through personal experience that the journey to authentic intimacy is not a smooth, easy one; I also know that it is always worth it.

Regarding my educational experiences, I earned my doctoral degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and my master’s degree in Counseling from Eastern University. I graduated from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania with a bachelor’s degree in ASL/English Interpreting.
